Wire Rope Technical Information

Our Main Strands of Wire Rope are 7x7, 1x19, 7x19, 6x19 Fibre Core and 6x7 Fibre Core.

Wire Rope Strand Characteristics

7x7

The flexible 7x7 construction steel wire rope is less strong but more flexible than 1x19 strand and yet stronger than 7x19 rope.

Our 7x7 steel cable is suitable for tensioning, security cables, marine, landscape and architectural use, stainless cable balustrading, stainless steel cable railing and decorative applications.

1x19

The 1x19 construction steel wire rope is stronger than other strands of cable and has less stretch. This also means it is non flexible. 1x19 construction wire rope does not allow for kinks or bends.

1x19 stainless steel wire rope is often used in yacht and sail boat rigging, architectural structural rigging and balustrading.

7x19

The 7x19 construction steel wire rope is highly flexible. This also means it is not as strong as either 1x19 or 7x7.

7x19 wire rope is suitable for most running load applications & numerous applications such as security cables & winch cables.

MBL - Minimum Break Load = The stress which, when steadily applied to a structural member, is just sufficient to break or rupture it. Also known as ultimate load.

THE SAFE WORKING LOAD IS 1/5th OF THE MINIMUM BREAKING LOAD

We supply from 1mm up to 25mm in various constructions in both Fibre Core and Steel Cores over the following strands:

-Galvanised 7x7 Strand Wire Rope

-Galvanised 1x19 Strand Wire Rope

-Galvanised 7x19 Strand Wire Rope

-Stainless Steel 7x7 Strand Wire Rope

-Stainless Steel 7x19 Strand Wire Rope

-Stainless Steel 1x19 Strand Wire Rope

Wire Rope Grips

Sometimes referred to as bull dog, bulldog grips.

Wire Rope Grips are used on wire rope eye-loop connections or complete loops, end-to-end connections, where socketing or splicing is not feasible or when a temporary joint is required. Wire rope grips (bulldog grips) require no special tools for assembly and can be disassembled and reused. 3 per end minimum is recommended.

Not to used on Wire When Lifting.

The Correct way to use Wire Rope Grips

Simplex and Duplex Rope Grips are not to be used with 1x19 Strand Wire Rope as the characteristics are too stiff.

Duplex Wire Rope Grips

The Duplex wire rope grip is used to create eyes in cable constructions, especially with 7x19 construction wire rope which has very flexible characteristics.

Simply loop the cable each side of the threaded bolt and tighten down the plate using a spanner.

Simplex Wire Rope Grips

The Simplex wire rope grip is used to create eyes in cable constructions. Particularly with 7x19 construction wire rope which has very flexible characteristics.

Simply loop the cable each side of the threaded bolt and tighten down the plate using a suitable spanner.
